WG1 State of the Art: AI and Archaeology

Working Group 1 is the starting point for those new to the main aim of MAIA to understand the current landscape and for those who wish to learn about and critique the way AI has been used in archaeology regarding data management, ethics, and user needs. WG1 explores the different data types (e.g., artefacts data, landscape data, or numismatics) and methods (e.g., machine learning algorithms used for predictive modelling, image recognition and automated reconstruction) used in AI applications for archaeology and the epistemological and hermeneutic role of AI in archaeology.
