Expertise: preservation of cultural heritage

Dr. Marina Toumpouri is a Research Associate at CYENS Centre of Excellence and a Research Affiliate at the Interdisciplinary Thematic Institute (ITI) – History, Sociology, Archaeology & Anthropology of Religions (HiSAAR) at the University of Strasbourg, France. She also serves as an external expert for the Church of Cyprus.
She holds an MA in Musicology and an MA in European Cultural Studies from the University of Strasbourg, as well as a PhD in Art History from the University of Lille. Her expertise lies in the study of Medieval tangible and intangible cultural heritage, with a particular focus on Greek and Crusader manuscript production patterns, illumination techniques, and the transmission of artistic and scribal traditions.
Her research combines traditional methodologies with technological tools to achieve a holistic documentation of cultural heritage assets. She furthermore explores how historical artifacts and their digital surrogates are disseminated, utilized, and preserved, with a focus on their historical context, materiality, and cultural significance.
