I am a biomolecular archaeologist working at the interface of archaeology and protein chemistry. Currently, I split my time between the University of Cambridge as Professor of Palaeoproteomics and the University of Copenhagen as Professor of Bioarchaeology. Born in 1960, I studied Zoology at UCNW in Wales before completing my PhD in Geology at the University of Glasgow. After postdoctoral positions in Leiden and Bristol, I joined Newcastle University, where I began exploring protein survival in archaeological materials. In 2003, I moved to York to help establish BioArCh, an interdisciplinary research environment bringing together biologists, archaeologists, and chemists.
