Expertise: colonial and post-colonial history, global and transnational history

He is presently associate professor of the History of Art Department in the Universidad de Sevilla. The received his PhD in History of Art from this institution, with his work “Intramuros: arquitectura en Manila, 1739-1788”. He has engaged in extensive international collaboration, visiting academic institutions such as the San Agustin Museum in Manila, the Instituto de Investigaciones Estéticas in Mexico, the European University Institute in Florence, King’s College London, Oxford University, and the Sapienza Università di Roma. He has participated in numerous international research projects, serving as principal investigator for four of them: two focused on the Xiyanglou buildings in the Yuanming Yuan Garden in Beijing, and the other on the architecture of power during the eighteenth century. Dr. Luengo has published numerous papers in both national and international journals, including The Burlington Magazine and The Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians, as well as in Early Modern History.
